This series contains reports, receipts, and accounting papers filed by the Steward and Treasurer of the Insane Hospital with the Auditor of the State for his review and to ensure the proper management of hospital funds. The series contains accounting sheets tabulating income and expenditures of the hospital, as well as a large number of receipts for items purchased by the hospital. The facility was known as the Insane Hospital from 1852-1893. The agency which oversees the hospital was later known as State Hospitals. The State Auditor was known as the Comptroller of Public Accounts before 1868.
